NYS Legislative Session Ends with 1,000 Bills Passed |
Session concludes with marathon, three-day "final day" for Assembly |
The New York State legislative session ended on Saturday when the Assembly finally finished just before noon. It was a very busy final "day" as more than 1,000 bills were passed by both houses, and an additional 600+ bills were passed by either the Senate or Assembly. As it takes time to properly sift through all of these bills to best understand the impact on our membership and the general business environment in New York State, the Empire State Chapter’s Government Affairs team will release a full legislative recap in next week’s merit messenger that highlights all the important bills that might impact you as an ABC member. The team will also be conducting an informational webinar to cover the top issues that will impact you and your business. CLICK LEFT TO REGISTER |
Employee Retention Tax Credit Reinstatement Act |
Last week, ABC joined a letter urging Congress to do everything in its power to pass the Employee Retention Tax Credit Reinstatement Act and fulfill its promise to American small businesses and nonprofits. The ERTCRA would restore the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) through the end of the 2021. Congress initially created the ERTC as part of the CARES Act to encourage businesses and nonprofits to keep employees on the payroll. This program was expanded through 2021 in subsequent legislation. Unfortunately, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) cut the last quarter of the program short, making wages paid after September 30, 2021, ineligible for the credit. ABC has also launched an Action Alert in support of the ERTCRA, and urges members to contact their U.S. Senators and Representatives and urge them to include this bill in the federal spending package. Did you know that mental distress, stress, and fatigue are also impairing? People often make light of how little sleep they get on a regular basis; an over-worked, over-tired condition has become the norm for many. But a good night's sleep is not just a novelty, it's a necessity. The effects of fatigue are far-reaching and can have an adverse impact on all areas of our lives. Work often requires us to override those natural sleep patterns. More than 43% of workers are sleep-deprived, and those most at risk work the night shift, long shifts or irregular shifts.
